Stephen King, 77-year-old writer, on one of the movies that terrified him the most: "Turn it off. I can't take it anymore."

At 77, writer Stephen King has once again proven that even the master of horror can lose his temper in front of a screen. Known worldwide for novels like Carrie, The Shining , and Pet Sematary , he confessed in a recent interview with People that there was one movie that made him plead with his son : "Turn it off. I can't stand it anymore."

The testimony is part of the documentary Chain Reactions , directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, which analyzes the impact of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre on horror cinema and features the participation of film figures such as Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike and Karyn Kusama. In this production, King reveals how he experienced that extreme moment during his convalescence in the hospital , after suffering a serious car accident in the late 1990s, the moment in which he saw The Blair Witch Project for the first time.

There, accompanied by his son, Joe Hill, he experienced one of the most intense sensations of his life as a spectator. Throughout the conversation, the writer explained that, although he considers himself "hardened" after decades of confronting monsters and ghosts in fiction, there are times when a work manages to pierce through that armor. "Every once in a while, a movie comes along that really gets under your skin ," admitted the author of It .

Released in 1999, The Blair Witch Project is considered a phenomenon of found-footage horror cinema. King acknowledged that the oppressive atmosphere of the woods and the symbols hanging from the trees that appeared on screen were chilling.

"She had that kind of washed-out, '70s look," he continued. "She seems so fucking real. It works because there's no artifice to her , no buildup, no character nuances. They're not extras. They're not Hollywood people at all. They look like they're from the nearest small town in Texas," King recalled of his fledgling performers. For a writer who has terrified generations of readers, this confession confirms that even great masters are also capable of falling victim to fear.
